Small update
Hi guys,

It's been a while since I did a page update. But here I am, I updated the following pages:

- Added a fanmail address to the FAQ
- 3x Shane's Words entry
- 2x Your Favourite Pictures
- Added name meanings for Patrick & Michael

Besides that, I've been working on the website, even though you might not see it, I've been making changes here and there. More visible changes will be coming over the next few weeks/months, as this is a much bigger project than I thought it would be.

Welcome Back Westlife!
Westlife have spent the past year taking a well-earned break and recharging their batteries after an incredible ten years in the charts. Now, the waiting in nearly over and the boys are preparing to return with one of the most exciting albums of their career.

In preparation, we’re giving you the chance to show the band just how much their fans are looking forward to having them back! Each fortnight we’ll be setting you a different ‘Welcome Back Westlife’ task, giving you the opportunity to get creative.

We’ll pick a handful of our favourite entries for each task and show them to the boys. After the final task, we’ll display all the winning entries here on Westlife’s official site, along with a comment on each one from a member of the band!

For the first task, we want you to write in no more than 150 words why you’re looking forward to the band’s return. The closing date for entries is midday on 31st August. Send your entries to westlifehq@live.co.uk, along with your full name or username.

Shane's supporting role for friend Paul

Westlife star Shane Filan made his way down the aisle again this weekend, but this time as a groomsman. Shane who married Gillian Walsh was delighted when he was asked to be a groomsman for his friend Paul Keavney (centre in the picture). Paul married Sheena Henry from Sligo on Saturday with Shane's other close pal Keith Moran (left) as best man. The wedding took place in Ransboro Church in Sligo and the three pals were also at the top table at the reception held in nearby Castle Dargan hotel.

Westlife promise 'strongest album yet'
Westlife have promised that their upcoming ninth studio album will be the group's strongest to date.
The Irish boyband, who have not released any new material for two years, insisted that they will surprise fans when they return later this year.

"The album will have no covers at all - we want it to be our strongest ever," Shane Filan told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"We're working on it in the studios at the minute and it's really exciting. We took a decision that we didn't want to do any covers at all this time round and give the fans 100% new material."

"We know this has to be something special because we have been away for over a year. I think everyone is going to be really surprised when they hear it."

Guy Chambers, former Savage Garden star Darren Hayes and Ryan Tedder, who penned Leona Lewis's 'Bleeding Love', are all rumoured to have contributed material for the new record.

"We're lucky to be working with some amazing writers and I'm sure this album is going to bring us back with a bang," Filan added.

"We want great up-tempo songs and some really strong ballads. That's what we made our name with and that's what we want to do again."

"The plan is to release the album before Christmas and then hit the road for a tour next year."

Westlife have sold over 40 million copies of their nine previous albums, seven of which were bestsellers in the UK.

Westlife singer Shane scores the winning goal in charity match against his childhood idols Rovers
By Anita Guidera
Thursday August 06 2009

Westlife superstar Shane Filan wowed fans with his fancy footwork when he scored the winning goal in a charity football match against his childhood heroes, Sligo Rovers, last night.

The multi-millionaire heart-throb fulfilled a childhood dream when he captained his father-in-law's works team from a local junior astro-turf league before a crowd of 500 at the Sligo Showgrounds.

"I actually find this quite exciting. I've followed Sligo Rovers all my life and I never thought I would get to play a game against them," he said before kick-off.

"To do it at the Showgrounds is an added thrill. It's what every kid in Sligo wants to do."

And he even managed to score the winning goal from a penalty against the Eircom League side in the action-packed game which ended with a 3-1 win for 'Filan's Eleven'.

Equalised
After a goal-free first half, Shane's team went one up when his co-striker, former Rovers star Sean Flannery, scored -- but just two minutes later, Rovers equalised.

Following a 20-yard driving run down the middle by Shane, his pass to Anthony Hennebery was netted in the 80th minute to put his side 2-1 ahead.

But Shane sealed victory when he scored from the penalty spot in the closing minutes.

Earlier, the 30-year-old beamed proudly as he jogged out sporting the striker's Number 9 jersey, after jetting in from London, where Westlife are working on their next album, just hours earlier.

He arranged the game with League of Ireland side Rovers to help pals Ann Culkin, a 26-year-old HR consultant, and Hilary Jones (27), a beauty consultant, raise funds for a charity climb of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, in aid of the Irish Red Cross later this month.

His Night Owls' League team, named the Sligo Plumbing and Heating Company, included four former Rovers players.

The youngest fan at the game was five-month-old Alana Lynch, who travelled from Dundalk with her parents, Francis and Carmel, friends of the organisers.

Alana's brother Francis (3) and sister Aoife (5) were official mascots for Shane's side as he led his squad on to the pitch.

R.I.P Kevin Egan
The sad news reached us today that Kevin Egan, Gillian's uncle & of course, Kian Egan's father, passed away yesterday. He had been suffering from cancer.

I'd like to send my condoleances to Kian & Gillian's families. My thoughts are with all of them affected by this terrible loss.

Westlife Kian's grief as dad dies of cancer
HEARTBROKEN Westlife star Kian Egan (29) has being comforted by his wife Jodi Albert last night as he came to terms with the death of his father.

The singer dashed to his beloved dad Kevin's bedside last week when his health took a turn for the worse.

A close friend said last night: "Kian is absolutely devastated. And all of his family idolised Kevin and looked up to him. They are all supporting each other. The Egans are a very close family and they will all be there for each other at this very difficult time."

Kevin had been battling cancer for nearly a year and his family were by his side as he slipped away at Sligo General Hospital on Saturday night.

Only two months ago he wrote a touching tribute to Kian which was read at his spectacular wedding to 26-year-old actress Jodi in Barbados.

He was too ill to travel to the ceremony but urged Kian to go ahead with the celebration and "Have the time of his life".

Kian's mum Patricia was by Kevin's side along with Kian's brothers Tom, Gavin and Colm and sisters Marielle, Vivienne and Fenella.

The singer had always maintained an extremely close relationship with his dad as he toured the world with Westlife over the past 10 years.

MEMORIES
He regularly flew his parents over to concerts to spend time with them and he continued to live in Sligo as the band hit the big time.

A family friend added yesterday: "There's no secret that Kian is a complete family man so obviously it's hitting him very hard. Jodi is being an absolute rock for him and all his brothers and sisters are getting amazing support and goodwill from their friends and extended family."

"All the children want to be there for their mum to help her through the difficult days ahead."

Kian's bandmates and manager Louis Walsh have also rallied around to extend their sympathies.

Shane To Face Idos For Charity

By Paddy Clancy

Soccer nut and Westlife heart-throb Shane Filan is to play against his home town club Sligo Rovers.

The sexy crooner, 30, tags out for his father-in-law's workplace team from the Sligo Plumbing and Heating company.

But the die-hard Rovers fan will face his heroes in a charity match at Sligo Showgrounds on August 5.

Big-hearted Shane has set up the showdown for pals Lesley Ann Culkin, 26, and Hilary Jones, 27.

The pair will climb Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, this year - to raise funds for the Irish Red Cross, which is celebrating its 70th birthday.

Although Shane will be facing a League of Ireland Premier Division side, the footie-mad celebrity is planning a few surprises for the game.
